This month, GLOBIS Asia Campus welcomed Dr. Andrew Staples, Principal at GeoPol Asia and GLOBIS University lecturer, for a seminar titled “Geopolitics for Business: Strategy Lessons from Japan.” The session saw a strong turnout, with over 50 attendees joining us at our Singapore campus and over 300 participants joining the discussion online from around the world.
As global tensions continue to impact international trade, Dr. Staples shared his perspective on how businesses can stay resilient in an increasingly unpredictable world. He discussed the shift away from a traditional focus on “efficiency” at all costs, suggesting that companies must now prioritize long-term stability and the ability to withstand global shocks.
A central theme of the session was the opportunity to learn from Japan’s unique experiences. Dr. Staples highlighted how Japan has often been a frontrunner in navigating complex societal and economic shifts. By looking at how Japanese firms have historically managed external challenges through careful planning and the building of trusted partnerships, he demonstrated how today’s leaders can adopt a similar mindset to ensure secure growth in a volatile landscape.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A and networking session, where participants discussed how to integrate these geopolitical insights into their own business strategies.
GLOBIS extends its thanks to Dr. Staples for sharing his expertise and to all the participants for their thoughtful engagement. We look forward to continuing these conversations as we support the development of forward-thinking leaders in the region.
